As a Spread the Word Advocate recruiter, you will invite your family, friends, and others in your community to become JDRF Advocates, helping build stronger bonds in your community and with Members of Congress. Each month, JDRF recognizes Spread the Word Advocate recruiters in bronze, silver, and gold categories:
- Bronze: 5-10 new Advocates;
- Silver: 11-15 new Advocates;
- Gold: 16 or more new Advocates.
While you must reach these levels to become a bronze, silver, or gold recruiter—and receive your Spread the Word pin—this is truly a competition in which everyone wins. Every time our numbers grow, so does our ability to advance the search for a cure.
How It Works
Participating in Spread the Word is as easy as 1, 2, 3:
- Register to become a Spread the Word Advocate recruiter. You must be a JDRF Advocate to participate in Spread the Word; if you are not already an Advocate, you can sign up and get started spreading the word in one easy step!
- Once you register as a recruiter, you will be directed to your personal Spread the Word web page. From this page, you will be able to manage your outreach efforts, track your progress, and compare your results to other top recruiters around the country.
- Invite your family, friends, neighbors, and others who are touched by type 1 diabetes to become JDRF Advocates. You will be provided with sample email text you can use to reach out to your contacts. Individuals who respond to your email will come to a personalized web page where you can post your photo and a personal message urging them to become Advocates.
JDRF will recognize your efforts to build bonds with other Advocates in two ways:
Monthly Awards
Each month, Spread the Word recruiters who reach the bronze, silver, or gold categories will receive a bronze, silver, or gold Spread the Word pin.
Spread the Word Contests
Periodically throughout the year, JDRF will host Spread the Word contests. The top bronze, silver, and gold recruiters in these contests will receive additional prizes, such as:
- Their name entered in a drawing to attend JDRF’s annual Government Day in Washington, D.C. The more advocates you recruit, the better chance you have of winning the trip!
- A flag flown over the U.S. Capitol.
Top recruiters will also be featured on the Spread the Word website and in JDRF Advocacy publications.
